Season 1
1. RumorsGordo has a HUGE portion of broccoli on his lunch plate, easily at least twice the amount a school cafeteria would normally serve.
Lizzie types "Because Kate stuffs her bra" on her instant message, but when Miranda accidentally sends it out, the "Because" has disappeared.
When Lizzie approaches Kate before the cheerleaders do their routine, a stage mark "X" is visible on the ground.
In the hallway scene, where Lizzie tries to confess to Kate she is wearing a red and white shirt without her blue purse. But in one shot, with the camera looking at Kate, the strap to the purse can be seen on her left shoulder just as it was a few moments later when Lizzie is walking to the pep rally with Miranda and Gordo.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Picture Day
Lizzie describes her "Oops! I did it again" outfit as having
a red halter top, but when it's pictured, she's wearing a full,
long-sleeved top. She also says it has black hip-huggers, which
are not shown, but those do show up in her "Shania Twain"
outfit. They appear to be spandex, even though Miranda describes
Lizzie's Shania outfit as "your denim thing."
Also, Lizzie describes her red halter top as having a bare
midriff, but in "Rated Aargh" she says that her mom won't let
her buy tops that show her stomach. The Shania outfit as
pictured does have a bare midriff.
The closed-captioning refers to Sam McGuire as "Simon." This
mistake recurs frequently in other episodes.
When Matt is faking sick, Mrs. McGuire takes the thermometer
out of Matt's mouth and walks away with it in her hand. But when
she's peaking around the corner talking to Mr. McGuire on the
phone, Matt now has the thermometer and is holding a flashlight
against it.
Mrs. McGuire asks Matt to go up stairs so that she can take
his tempreture, however, he is down stairs when she takes it.
Nitpick: Why on earth couldn't Lizzie just wear a shirt
underneath the sweater so she could take it off? Then when it
came time to take the picture she could put the sweater back on.
Also, why doesn't she just go get another shirt after her
original gets paint on it? Gordo does have others in his locker.
Goof or Not a Goof: As Lizzie is walking up to Gordo when he
is waiting in the picture line, she calls him Gordon instead of
Gordo.
^-- Not goof, his last name is Gordon, first name David, and
NICKname, Gordo
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. When Moms Attack
Lizzie accuses Miranda of saying to Kate that she wore "pink
ducky" pajamas. Actually Miranda corrected Kate, who said Lizzie
had pink puppy pajamas, by telling her they were ducks, but she
didn't mention the color. When a picture of the pajamas was
shown, the ducks were yellow.
Lizzie tells her mom the camping trip is "only overnight,"
but earlier in the episode's intro Toon Lizzie said it was 48
hours in the woods parentless.
Look very carefully at the long shot of the school bus
taking the students on the field trip and you'll see that it is
almost empty.
It would have been difficult for the boys to sneak on the
bus with all those super-soaker squirt guns that they attacked
the girls with. Mr. Pettus doesn't seem like the kind of teacher
who would have let them take them along.
Lizzie tells her mom, "High fives are always really dorky,
though," but in later episodes she gives and receives high-fives
on several occasions. Maybe they had a change in status?
Lizzie is holding Gordo's camera when her mom is introduced
as the new chaperone. Lizzie is then shown with her hands up to
her mouth and Gordo is holding the camera.
2 different video cameras were used during the sequence when
Lizzie was filming the "mystery chaperone." She is shown holding
a JVC miniDV camera, but the LCD display of a Sony D8 was used
for the shot showing Lizzie's mom walking through the door.
When Mr. Pettus is speaking to the students before the field
trip it's supposed to be in the morning, but the clock behind
him says 3:28.
Lizzie says she has pictures of Kate and her kiddie things,
Kate reactes to it like it can destroy her life. In the episode
"She Said, He Said, She Said", Lizzie says when Kate snores,
"Finally, I have something on Kate, she snores!" Why would she
say that when she has those pictures?
Re Lizzie holding the camera: She's shown dropping it when
she sees her mom then puts her hands to her mouth. It probably
dropped in her lap luckily undamaged for Gordo to pick up.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Pool Party (aka Pilot)
Lizzie is shown in a camera shot from the inside of her
locker, where she takes off a bracelet and hangs it up. In the
next shot from a camera angle outside the locker, the pictures
and other contents of the locker are different. Then when the
camera goes back to the inside shot, the bracelet is no longer
hanging there.
Lizzie says she'll feed Matt's book to his gerbils, but
there is never any mention of gerbils or any pet after that.
In this episode the girls' gym uniforms are grey but in
others they are blue.
The gym class in this episode and in "I've Got Rhythmic" is
all-girls, but in "Scarlett Larry," which also takes place in
the 7th grade, it's a co-ed class. Although, a viewer has
pointed out that in some junior high schools there can be
separate boys and girls P.E. classes which may combine for
activities like dancing in the episode "Scarlett Larry."
Nitpick: The calendar hanging on the refrigerator is turned
to the month of May instead of one of the fall months. This
seems odd since the early episodes make it appear that the first
season begins with the start of the school year.
Nitpick: In the scene where Lizzie is lying on her bed and
avoiding her parents, the wide shot shows a book that is open,
but in the following shot it can be seen further up her bed and
opened to a different page.
The exterior shots of the McGuire house show a white fence
around it, but the fence seen on the soundstage has the natural
appearance of wood.
Not a goof: In this episode Nana, Jo's mom, is mentioned,
while in "Picture Day" Gammy McGuire, who is Sam's mom is
mentioned, they are two different people.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. I've Got Rhythmic
The announcer at the gymnastics meet gives the name of
Lizzie's school as North Hills Junior High. In later episodes,
however, the school is called Hillridge Middle School (and also
Hillridge Junior High).
In a scene in PE class, the number of clubs in Miranda's
hands changes from one to two in several different shots.
While Lizzie's gymnastics routine is still going on, the
camera pans by the judges, who already have Lizzie's final
scores in front of them ready to hold up.
When Lizzie first looks at the posted list of grades, it has
all different names in alphabetical order, but when a close-up
of her name on it is shown, the other visible names all end with
"...ansen."
Toward the end of the episode, Lizzie pronounces Kate
Sanders' last name as "Saunders" instead of with the short "a"
sound. In future episodes the pronunciation of this name will go
back and forth from one to the other.
NOT a goof!: Kate drops a club on her right foot, but in the
locker room afterwards she appears to have her left foot
bandaged. That's right, she APPEARS to! A sharp-eyed viewer
pointed out to us that when the shot begins, the camera pans
across the locker room from right to left and stops on a mirror,
where we see the REFLECTION of Kate in it. In the mirror image,
of course, it looks like her left foot is bandaged rather than
her right!
At the end, Toon Lizzie is looking at a bunch of classmates'
pictures and predicting their futures. She comes across three
sort-of geeky looking guys pictured in cars and says of them,
"Destined to become gazillionaires," then adds "Call me!" But
one of the three is Larry Tudgeman! In future episodes, Lizzie
doesn't show much desire to have Tudge to "call her."
Some of the Rhythmic Sportive Gymnasts (RSG) rules broken
during Lizzie's routine:
1) A gymnast is never to use music with words, in any
language.
2) A gymnast must have their hair tied in a bun or small
ponytail.
3) A gymnast is never, under any circumstances allowed to
switch an apparatus (ribbon, hoop, ball, rope, clubs) in one
routine, each apparatus is to have their own routine.
4) A gymnast is never to stop their routine in the middle of
the performance.
In the scene where Lizzie throws the hoop and Tudgeman
catches it, she does a tumble and comes out of it in a standing
position. But, in the next shot when Gordo throws the ribbon to
Lizzie, she catches it and comes out of a kneeling position.
In the opening and closing hallway scenes, Miranda has on
the same outfit.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Jack of All Trades
When Gordo is talking with Mr. Pettus after his brain
project explodes, he has a piece of green slime on his shoulder
that keeps disappearing and reappearing from shot to shot. In
one shot it can be seen rolling down his shirt sleeve. The same
thing keeps happening after he leaves the classroom and is
talking with Lizzie and Miranda in the hall. The goop keeps
falling off of, then reappearing, on Mr. Pettus as well.
In a scene at the McGuire house, Lizzie puts on her
backpack, which is unzipped. A few seconds later a shot from
behind her shows the backpack is zipped up.
As Lizzie is about to leave the classroom after Gordo's
brain explodes, her face is almost totally covered in slime. But
when she enters the hallway her face has almost no slime on it.
When Miranda reaches under her desk and says, "I feel gum,"
she's holding a pencil in her right hand. The next quick-cut
shot shows a right hand (presumably hers!) under the table
feeling some stuck-on gum--with no pencil. Then the shot
immeditely switches back to Miranda with the pencil in hand
again.
After Lizzie gets slimed at school, she's shown at home
where she's obviously cleaned up and gotten the slime out of her
hair. But she's still wearing the same clothes. Even though her
clothes are slime-free, it seems unlikely she would put the same
ones back on after cleaning them off. Actually, in the shots
after Gordo's brain explodes, Lizzie's clothes appear to be free
of slime.
Lizzie and Miranda are shown wearing the same clothes to
school on two different days close together. Now, of course this
is entirely possible, but the two girls are very
clothes-conscious and never do this on any other episode! In the
first scene at school, Lizzie wears a dark green print top with
the number "2" on the chest and a lighter green print pair of
hip-huggers while Miranda wears a yellow long-sleeved T with a
purple sleeveless top over it. Later during the scene where the
brain blows up in class, the girls are wearing those same
outfits. Gordo, however, is in different clothes! To confuse
things even further, Lizzie wears a lighter green printed top in
a scene in between the other two (when she's making the brain
poster.) Also, Lizzie wears the same outfit described above at
dinner on the two different days--and so does her mom Jo, who
wears a white top and a peach jacket. But in the dinner scenes,
Matt and Mr. McGuire both have on different clothes in each!
When Lizzie and Miranda are trying to look through the
transom over the door into Mr. Pettus' class, Miranda picks up
Lizzie and boosts her up, holding Lizzie's feet in her hands.
When that doesn't work, Lizzie suggests that she stand on
Miranda's shoulders. This time it works, and Lizzie gets up to
the window level, only she's not on Miranda's shoulders; once
again, Miranda is holding Lizzie's feet in her hands just like
before.
When Gordo, Miranda, and Lizzie are talking in the hall
after Gordo says the Bill Gates remark, Miranda first has a
3-ringed binder and a book with the binder on the outside. The
next scene it switches. Then the book switched all together.
Nitpick: If Gordo is so smart how come he didnt know the
real meaning behind the career aptitude test. He thought it was
a type of job placement test until Mr. Pettus told him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Aaron Carter's Coming to Town (aka Here Comes Aaron
Carter)
Miranda mentions that Matt managed to pass for a
"super-genius" at their school for half a day. But the episode
in which that happened ("Lizzie's Nightmares") wasn't broadcast
until three months after this one.
Matt refers to Lanny in this episode, saying he told him
where the video shoot was. But Lanny was not introduced as a
character until the episode "Come Fly with Me." (This episode
was shot after "Come Fly with Me," but it aired before it.)
The director lets Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo onto the set so
they can appear in Aaron Carter's video as stunt or dancing
elves, but Lizzie and Miranda wear regular clothes in the video
and Gordo does not appear at all.
Another continuity goof due to this episode being shown out
of production order: Lizzie tells Miranda here that she's a
great singer, but Lizzie didn't realize Miranda could sing until
"Random Acts of Miranda," which didn't premiere until
two-and-a-half months later.
When Lizzie, Miranda, and Gordo are ditching their elf
costumes, they're all still wearing their elf hats. In the next
shot, they're not wearing them anymore, yet we never saw them
take them off.
When Lizzie is dressed like an elf, her hair is in pigtails.
Later after she, Miranda and Gordo get rid of the costumes, her
hair is styled differently.
When Jo pulls up at the video shoot she looks at the guard
and goes "i'm Jo McGuire Lizzie's mom, i spoke to you on the
phone." but she never did. She just listened to the machine then
left. it is possible that she called them on her cell phone but
she doesn't copy the phone number down so how would she had
known?
You'd think Sam would've left Jo a pass so she could get the
kids into the shoot but when she talks to the security guard she
doesn't have a pass. She could have forgot it though.
In a beginning scene, it is stated that it is springtime.
But on the set of the video, the security guards says, "While it
is Christmastime, so I guess its okay".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Misadventures in Babysitting
Kate's last name is pronounced like "Saunders" instead of
Sanders with a short "a" sound like it is spelled and has been
pronounced in the past.
After the opening credits when Miranda and Lizzie are in the
lunch line, Lalaine (Miranda) delivers her first line and starts
to grin, then looks at the camera for a moment as if she expects
the director to say "Cut!" But he doesn't and the scene goes on!
When Matt spills grape juice on himself, Gordo agrees to
taking him upstairs to get a clean shirt. But when he comes
back, you can still see the juice on Matt's shirt.
Matt holds up a book on the end of a vacuum cleaner nozzle,
but when the power goes out, the book doesn't fall to the floor
like it should, but instead stays on the nozzle, even when Matt
drops it.
When Matt is eating the popsicles, there is very little of
the purple mess around his mouth that we see just a few seconds
later after he's finished them.
Miranda sings a terrible off-key version of "My Country 'Tis
of Thee" here, even though it's shown in "Random Acts of
Miranda" that she's actualy a good singer. Perhaps she was just
trying to raise a ruckus to help scare off whoever or whatever
was outside, but good singers usually would balk at purposely
singing badly no matter what the reason.
When Miranda had just put some music on and Gordo was coming
into the room saying raccoons wouldn't stay for her singing you
can see and x on the floor where he stops at.
When Miranda had just put some music on and Gordo was coming
into the room saying raccoons wouldn't stay for her singing you
can see and x on the floor where he stops at.
Not a goof: Lizzie tells her parents a reason why they
should let her babysit Matt, because Kate babysits and that
she's the same age as her, but this was before the episode
"Gordo's Video" in which we learned that she is actually 14.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. Election
Gordo states the Claire did a kick and knocked over Larry's
bowl of worms, but Larry was always seen carrying around a
bucket.
At the end, when Larry wins the election he says "...and Jar
Jar Binks Rules!" after he says that the "Trekkie" club stands
up and gives him a hug! Yet a true Trekkie probably wouldn't
have done that since Star Trek and Star Wars have been long time
box office rivals.
Gordo tells Lizzie not to smile since the Drama Club doesn't
smile. Yet when she walks over to their table she smiles at them
and the drama club members can be seen smiling at other points
during the episode.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10. I Do, I Don't
Chelsea J. Wilson played Parker McKenzie in the "Picture
Day" episode, but is identified only as "Cop Kid" here. Later
she will appear as Parker again in "Obsession." Her "husband" in
this episode, Mitchah Williams ("Farmer Kid"), has been on the
show five times but has never been given a proper name.
Miranda's bra strap is visible in her homemaker's outfit at
the reunion, but two episodes later in "Between a Rock and a Bra
Place," she and Lizzie say that they don't have bras yet. One
veiwer did point out that she may have been wearing a singlet.
Gordo mispronounces "married" and says, "We've been larried
less than a period..."
Larry misspeaks and says to Kate, "Maybe if you just work me
like I asked," instead of "worked with me."
The uncertainty over Kate's last name continues. Mrs. Stebel
calls her her Kate SAN-ders while Toon Lizzie says SAUN-ders.
In the 3-way phone conversation at the end, Lizzie makes the
common mistake of saying "not taking people 'for granite'
instead of 'for granted.'"
Ashlie Brillault (Kate) can't help smiling during a scene
when the contents of a punchbowl are poured over her head.
When Lizzie is getting a drink at the Digital Bean, a
waitress walks behind her. In the next quick-cut shot, the
waitress is seen at the cash register.
When Larry pulls the paper with his career choice out of the
fishbowl, nothing is written on it. This mistake occurs more
than once.
Miranda says, "See you guys in gym," to Lizzie and Gordo.
But earlier in "Pool Party" and "I've Got Rhythmic" Lizzie and
Miranda's 3rd period gym class was all female.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11. Bad Girl McGuire
When the teacher hands out the test, Angel is saying "Let me
see your paper" and trying to cheat off Lizzie before she's even
had a chance to write anything down.
When Lizzie first enters ther detention room, there is a
pink sticker with "Lizzie" printed on it stuck on her
binder--but it's only visible in the shots with Mr. Escobar in
them. When the camera goes back to Lizzie, the sticker is gone.
The sticker disappears and reappears like this throughout the
conversation.
Gordo tells Lizzie he has the answers for algebra. But few,
if any, 7th graders take a math class as advanced as algebra.
[Ed. note--There has been a lot of disagreement about this one.
Many people have told us they either took algebra in the 7th
grade or that other kids do or that 7th graders sometimes take
introductory lessons to the subject in math class.]
At the start of the episode where the teacher is handing out
the quiz, Gordo is wearing a light gray long-sleeved shirt
underneath his button-down short-sleeved shirt. But in the
hallway when Gordo and Miranda are walking Lizzie to detention,
Gordo is wearing a short-sleeved t-shirt underneath his usual
short-sleeved button-down shirt. Later when Gordo is talking to
Lizzie and Miranda on the phone, he'ss in the long-sleeved shirt
again.
In the opening shots Miranda's hair is held up in pigtails
by several different-colored elastic bands. Later, near the
detention room, the bands have been switched around. Each shot
was most likely done on different days.
Lizzie serves her detention the same day it's assigned,
though most if not all schools have to give at least 24 hours
notice before after-school detention can be served. Another
nitpick is that Jo complains she didn't know where Lizzie was
after her detention, but some schools notify parents of a
student's detention. As for how she got home since the bus had
already run, it's likely she walked or got a ride from someone.
In the opening scene in the math class, it looks like the
prop person opened up a box of pencils and gave every kid in the
class a new one, they're all the same length, color, etc.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12. Between a Rock and a Bra Place
Matt says that Jet Li is looking for a sidekick for his
"newish" movie instead of "newest."
When Gordo and Matt are filming the pebble scene for Matt's
audition tape, the camera tripod falls down which makes them
stop filming (obviously). But seconds later, when they go to get
Sam, we see the camera is standing up.
As Lizzie and Miranda are standing at their lockers
discussing how to get to the mall, both close their doors.
Seconds later Lizzie's locker door can been seen open but in the
following shot it is again closed.
Matt supposedly wins the Jet Li sidekick contest, which is a
very big deal, but it's never mentioned again for the rest of
the series.
In the scene where Jo is in the food court, she is shown in
several alternating shots to be holding a drink at mouth level,
then holding it while it's on the table.
When Gordo comes over to the McGuire's house he is wearing a
long sleeve dark blue pull-over shirt under a pastel white short
sleeve shirt. When he returns with his camera the white shirt is
no longer white, it has no pastel design and it now has long
sleeves. Yet in one of the final scenes where Lizzie, Miranda
and Gordo are speaking on the phone he is again wearing the
short sleeve shirt over the blue shirt.
Gordo says that he's in all of Lizzie and Miranda's classes
"except for gym," but in a later episode in the season,
"Scarlett Larry" (which also takes place in the seventh grade),
Gordo is shown in a "co-ed gym" class with the girls.
While Lizzie is telling Jo about how she and Miranda aren't
children anymore in the dressing room, there is a shot of Jo and
behind her is the cashier. This makes it seem like the 'dressing
rooms' are dressing cubicles, which would be very unlikely in a
bra store or any kind of clothing store for that matter, because
Lizzie states "I could've been changing!" when Jo opens the
curtain of her dressing cubicle without asking if she was
"decent."
Nitpick: How exactly were they able to film Gordo and Sam
filming during the credits of the movie that they made?
At one point there is an error in the closed captioning when
Sam is identified as Simon.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13. Come Fly with Me
When Matt and Lanny are trying to set a world record, Matt
looks through the record book and says, "Ah, world's largest
pancake," when the page he has the book open to is headed
"Computer Technology."
As Gordo is showing Lizzie his model planes he makes the
statement, "the Allies used this plane in World War II to
deliver powdered eggs and rubber to American Samoa." While the
plane can't be seem completely, it is clear that he is holding a
single engine fighter, not a military transport aircraft. From
the shark's mouth nose art on the model it was most likely a
P-40 Warkhawk used by the American Volunteer Group in Burma and
China, or more commonly known as the Flying Tigers. One other
thing, considering the location of American Samoa, resupply by
ship would make more sense than using aircraft.
Matt tells Lanny he "only" has to gain 674 pounds to become
the world's heaviest person. But Guinness World Records 2000
lists the heaviest person of all time as 6'1" John Minnoch, who
in March 1978 was admitted to a hospital with heart failure
where his weight was calculated at over 1,400 lbs.! Minnoch was
put on a diet and reduced his weight to 476 lbs., but when he
died in 1983 he was back up to near 800 pounds.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14. Random Acts of Miranda
Miranda and Lizzie talk as if neither had ever been in a
play before, but in "Lizzie Strikes Out" Miranda says she was in
a school "holiday pageant" as a "maid a'milkin'."
A boy with short red hair and a boy with sunglasses who are
sitting behind Matt and Lanny at the play are seen in various
other locations in different shots.
When Miranda says she'll try out for the Glee Club, Lizzie
is worried that she'll be a bad singer. Yet in "Aaron Carter Is
Coming to Town," Lizzie tells Miranda she's a wonderful singer
and should perform for Aaron. (This is a prime example of
confusion caused by showing episodes out of production order.
"Random Acts" was shot before "Aaron..," but it wasn't broadcast
until after it.)
When Gordo is shown filming the play and the glee club, he's
holding his camera at shoulder level, which would presumably get
shots of the backs of the head of those sitting in front of him.
After Lanny drinks some of the orange drink he and Matt are
having, he shivers, indcating something's wrong with it. Matt
then apologizes for his mistake and adds some sugar. But there
was already sugar visible in the bottom of Lanny's glass. (Or
maybe he justs likes a ton of sugar in his drinks?)
When Lizzie is in the family room with Gordo writing her
review, it doesn't appear that her pen is actually touching the
paper.
In the scene where Miranda tells Lizzie and Gordo about
getting the lead in the play, there are a couple of loose
strands of hair in front of Lizzie's face. A moment later, her
hair is all neatly pinned back in her ponytail.
In the opening scene Gordo states that cannibalism existed
on Trinidad and Tobago until 1850. A review of several sources
shows no evidence that the native Carib Indians continued this
practice to the nineteenth century.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15. Lizzie's Nightmares
Lizzie complains that Gordo and Miranda didn't tell her she
had spinach in her teeth, which clashed with her red outfit. Yet
when they show a picture of her, she's wearing a yellow shirt.
In the episode "Pool Party," Miranda, Gordo and Lizzie all
are seen riding the same school bus. But when Matt mistakenly
gets on that bus, Miranda and Gordo were not on it. It's very
unlikely that Lizzie, Miranda, and Gordo all missed the bus that
day and got to school some other way.
The principal says "B.E." one time instead of "P.E."
When Sam is online auctioning off the record albums, Jo
comes in and says the school just called about Matt. But later
when the policeman is at the house, Sam says he disconnected the
phone while he was online!
Matt says he likes Lizzie's school better because it has a
bigger playground than his. But it's unlikely a middle school or
a junior high would have a "playground."
When they find out that Matt is missing from his school, Mr.
and Mrs. McGuire question Lanny at their house about where Matt
might be. But shouldn't Lanny be in school also? (In the 2003
Lizzie McGuire book New Kid in School, which contains the story
from this episode, it explains that Lanny's school allowed the
McGuires to take him out of school and question him about Matt.
This is never mentioned on the TV show.)
Lizzie tells Miranda and Gordo that Matt has been grounded
for his antics at her school. But at the episode's end, Ethan
calls Lizzie and asks for her to pick up a pizza for him and
Matt when they have lunch on Saturday, something a "grounded"
kid certainly wouldn't be doing. Although, it is possible Ethan
didn't know about Matt's grounding. Also, some people point out
that in this (and other Lizzie episodes) Lizzie, Miranda and
Gordo are still able to use the phone even when grounded. This
may or may not be a goof, as different parents have different
policies about grounding, with some letting their children still
use the phone or reduce the time they can talk on it rather than
stricly prohibit its use.
Kate states that Matt couldn't be related to Lizzie because
he's so cool. Yet if Kate and Lizzie where such close friends
she should have recognized him.
Another discrepancy involving the morning bus. Sam tells
Matt "Hurry, you're going to miss your bus," and it's learned
that Jo will be taking Lizzie to school. So, we see Matt rush to
the bus and get on, despite it being the wrong one. Next shot is
Lizzie, Gordo, and Miranda in the school hallway discussing
lunch. Then the action cuts back to the bus where we see Ethan
confronting Matt. How can this be? If Matt was running late for
his bus (and assuming he rushed out the door after the scene in
the kitchen), how did Lizzie make it to school so quickly (along
with Gordo and Miranda), while Matt is still sitting on the bus?
After Jo listens to the answering machine, she and Sam hug.
But in a series of three shots Jo's head moves from Sam's right
shoulder to the left and back to the right.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
16. Obsession
Lizzie is supposedly wearing a dress made of burlap, but
Miranda doesn't ask about it until the second time she sees
Lizzie wearing it.
Plastic six-pack rings aren't what dolphins get tangled up
in, like Lizzie alleges!
Lizzie complains to her mum that there is a limited water
source. However that isn't true to the fact that water recycles
itself (I won't go to far into detail.)
Nitpick: During the Science Olympics, in the slow bicycle
race, both Tudgeman and Gordo should know that at those slow
speeds, aerodynamics play a very minor role. Balance and center
of gravity play a much more important part when riding slowly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17. Sibling Bonds
Lizzie is standing outside the men's bathroom while
handcuffed to Matt. Seeing that the handcuffs' chains was maybe
6 inches long, there's no chance Matt would be going to the
bathroom (or doing anything), since the toilets are not that
close to the door.
When Sam orders a pizza he takes a piece out of it, but it's
later shown with no pieces missing.
When Sam says, "Hey kids, I've got the key" he actually
throws two keys...it says "nitpicks," doesn't it?
The closed-captioning for this episode identified Sam
McGuire as "Simon." (This has happened in at least one other
episode as well.)
When Matt handcuffs himself to Lizzie, he's wearing a
magician's top hat and cape. Then when he and Lizzie are
searching for the key, the hat and cape are gone in the first
shots, then reappear later in the scene.
When Miranda hands Lizzie the cup while shes standing
outside the photo booth, there is obviously nothing in it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18. Rated Aargh
When Lizzie, Gordo, and Miranda try sneaking in through the
the emergency fire escape it is locked and Gordo says, "The Fire
Escape is locked, that can't be a good thing!", but a guy as
smart as Gordo should know that fire escape doors ONLY open from
the inside, by pushing the silver bar that is on the door. This
unlocks the door and turns the fire alarm on.
Gordo acts like he wasn't in Lizzie's health class when
Lizzie had to do mouth-to-mouth with Tudgeman. But in the
episode "Between a Rock and a Bra Place" he said that he was in
all of the her classes.
Lizzie says something about "how to make mock apple pie out
of salty crackers" instead of saying "saltine crackers."
When the moviegoer Lizzie saves is choking, the popcorn of
the other guy keeps disappearing and reappearing from shot to
shot. In addition, his friend's cap is almost knocked off his
head in one shot, then in the next quick-cut wide shot, it's
back on his head straight.
Generally CPR classes use a life-size doll or dummy for
students to learn and practice on, as it is not a good idea to
do chest compressions on someone with a normally-beating heart.
[But it wouldn't be very funny that way!--Ed.] The doll was
later noticed laying on a table behind Lizzie.
Here's something that happens frequently on the show:
Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo all get grounded, yet afterward
they're all talking on the phone together...about being
grounded! Don't any of their parents ever consider taking away
phone priviliges as part of grounding?
When Lizzie is talking to Gordo and Miranda, they were
talking about how all 3 of their parents said no, so they might
as well go play mini golf. But when the kids get back from the
movie, Lizzie's parents say something like "Why don't we go see
Vesuvius? We've talked it over and we've decided that you kids
are old enough." Since when do Lizzie's parents get to decide
what Miranda and Gordo get to watch?? They're not the McGuire's
kids!
In the scene when Lizzie saves Jeremy from choking, she does
not have her purse in the wide shots, but in the close ups it
can be seen on her right shoulder.
Why is it that Gordo and Miranda help Lizzie before her
parents find out about seeing the movie, when their own parents
could see the news as well, shouldn't they be at home
distracting their parents?
When Lizzie, Gordo, and Miranda are at the movie theaters, a
news reporter is talking about them. While the cameraman is
recording, you can see the name of the theater and Channel 4 on
the screen. The only prblem is that those images shouldn't be
visible while recording.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
19. Gordo and the Girl
Lizzie and Miranda were preparing a "scary movie marathon,"
despite Toon Lizzie saying in another episode that she didn't
like horror movies ("People like me don't do very well at horror
movies!")
When Lizzie and Miranda are at the restaurant, they bump
into the waiter who is bringing the food for a party of two. But
when they fall to the ground, they're covered in enough pasta to
feed about a half-dozen people! (Or is it a goof? We've been
informed that the restaurant where the scene was filmed--see the
"Notes" section above--is famous for their gigantic platters of
food.)
Also, the amount of pasta and sauce on Lizzie's face changes
from shot to shot.
When Sam is teaching Matt percentages with gumballs, he says
there are ten in each row when some rows actually have eleven.
Goof or not a goof. When Gordo was leaving the restaurant
with Brooke, a viewer thinks Gordo was heard calling her
"Parker" others however believe he did say Brooke. [Ed. After
listening to this several times, I think it's safe to say Gordo
did not say "Parker."
In the scene where Jo finds Matt's book in the laundry, both
Matt and Lanny walk in with arm fulls of stuff. A few seconds
later in a wide shot, Lanny has already placed his stuff on the
table, but in the next shot he can be seen placing the items on
the table and quickly leaving.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
21. Lizzie Strikes Out
After Mr. Dig crashes into the tree, Miranda calls him "Mr.
Digs."
Miranda recalls her embarrassment as a "maid a-milkin'" in a
holiday pageant when she was younger. But in "Random Acts of
Miranda," she and Lizzie talk as if neither of them had ever
been in a play before.
After Matt and Lanny 'mummify' Lizzie they fall to the floor
and Matt's camouflage hat falls off his head. But in one shot
after he stands up it's back on his head, while in all the
others it's not.
Closed captioning goof: Ethan's last name is spelled as
Kraft instead of Craft.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
22. The Untitled Stan Jansen Project
When they are at the Digital Bean, after Lizzie and Miranda
have dumped the whipped cream and chocolate on the floor and
Stan Jansen has slipped and is falling, the stuntman doesn't
land anywhere near the pile of whipped cream but then the angle
changes and his face has moved up about a foot so it would go
in.
Nitpick: When the McGuires are at the table and Lizzie keeps
changing outfits, Matt gets up and knocks his fork across the
plate.
When Lizzie is wearing a green sparkly shirt, you can see
she's also wearing an ankle brace. (Hilary Duff sprained her
ankle on the set of Cadet Kelly, but this injury seems to have
occured before that.)
Goof or not a goof: Larry says "boldy going where no
'shecret' agent has gone before," instead of "secret" agent.
Although, one viewer has stated Larry's slurring of the word
"Secret" wasn't a flub, it was intentional. He was doing an
impression of Sean Connery, famous for his role as 007, James
Bond (hence the "secret agent" bit). Connery's voice is famous
for its gravel like Scottish accent. Thus the word "Secret"
would sound different with said accent applied to it.
Lizzie and Miranda run into a room marked "Girls Bathroom"
to escape Gordo at one point. In almost any school, the room
would simply be marked "Girls," and if it had any further
identification, it would be called a "restroom" rather than a
bathroom--unless it contained baths (highly unlikely!)
At the Digital Bean, Gordo writes "GO AWAY" in a notebook
using a large, dark marker. When he picks up the notebook to
show it to the camera, revealing the back of the previous page,
you can briefly make out another "GO AWAY" through the paper.
During the scene at the Digital Bean, when Matt is chased by
Stan Jansen, in some of the close up shots of Stan you can see
his glasses aren't hanging around his neck. Then as he slips and
falls his glasses can be seen flying off of his neck, but in the
next shot as he rolls over on the floor, his glasses are again
around his neck.
While the two shots of Stan Jansen saying "No can do" to
Gordo are different shots, they were likely filmed at the same
time based on his position to the items behind him on the wall.
In both of those shots Jansen is wearing a gray shirt, but after
the second "No can do" when Gordo walks away digusted the
following close up of him shows him wearing a black shirt.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
23. Last Year's Model
The pronunciation of Kate's last name has gone from
"Sanders" with a short "a" sound to SAUN-ders, then back to
SAND-ers again on this episode.
When Lizzie and Miranda are at the country club in line to
get water, it shows Kate and a red-haired girl standing in front
of them. Kate and the girl turn around to look at Lizzie and it
shows Lizzie and Miranda waiting but the other girl is behind
them! Then Kate is shown again and the girl is still next to
her.
When Lizzie and Miranda are getting in line at the country
club for water, Lizzie is telling Miranda that if one of the
teachers had known about Lizzie being a model in the future, she
would have cast her as the snow princess instead of a sheep in
the 5th grade holiday pageant. But in "Random Acts Of Miranda,"
Lizzie said that neither of them had been in a play before.
When Matt gets the letter from his grandma, he says "Wow, a
50 dollar gift certificate," as he's opening the envelope, but
before he gets a chance to take a good look at what's inside.
Also, it sounds like he says "birfday" instead of "birthday."
When Lizzie is talking to Mr. Dig about being a model,
Lizzie mentions how Gordo and Miranda have been treating her
different. Then Mr. Digs says "I don't know who those people
are." But Mr. Dig he appears to have known them in earlier
episodes "Educating Ethan" and "Lizzie Strikes Out."
Not a goof: In the scene where Jessica asks Lizzie to come
to the country club, Miranda's necklace keeps appearing and
disappearing. Actually, the shadow from her face is concealing
it, but if you look closely the necklace is there the whole
time.
When Lizzie, Miranda, Gordo, and Jessica are in the hot tub
Lizzie is drinking something and the flower in her cup keeps
disappearing and reappearing from shot to shot.
Mr. Dig says "...I was born in East Lansing, Michigan. Go
Wolverines!", referring to the sports teams' nickname at the
University of Michigan. But Lansing is actually the home of
Michigan State University (the Spartans), who are athletic
arch-rivals of Michigan. The University of Michigan is in Ann
Arbor.
It's seriously doubtful that Lizzie would be reading Lord of
the Flies at a 7th grade level. As it says in cultural
references, some of content is scandalous and has been banned in
some schools. For school districts that do allow it, it's a part
of the high school curriculum.
Also, Gordo must not have read the book very closely.
There's no cannibalism in it. The boys do "hunt" another boy one
time, but it's for sport rather than for food, and they don't
even catch him. On the island, the boys eat fruit and pork.
When Lizzie is putting her pencil box in her locker you can
see that there is only one book in the locker. But when she
notices that the boy is staring at her and she turns around, you
get a good view of her locker and you see that she has several
notebooks and textbooks in it.
On the same day Lizzie has her one-on-one conversation with
Mr. Dig and everyone is treating her entirely differently, Gordo
is wearing a gray t-shirt with a circle on it under a yellow
shirt and Miranda is wearing her hair in 4 pigtails with an
orange and white printed shirt. However, when Lizzie puts
"Operation Superstar Brat" into action, Miranda and Gordo are
wearing the same clothes, which is a Saturday because she
threatens to not take Gordo to the Shango Tango that night if he
doesn't redo the book report. In addition, Gordo and Miranda are
wearing these same clothes at the second fashion show where
Lizzie succeeds in getting out of her contract.
Matt and Lanny buy a hammock with their money, but in "Pool
Party" there is a hammock in the McGuire's backyard. So why
would they buy a hammock if they already had one.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24. Night of the Day of the Dead
Before turning into a zombie Lizzie has a purple ring on her
left hand. Later, when she turns into a zombie and walks into
the room, you can see the ring on her right hand. When she drops
the weapon, she puts her hands up again, you can see that the
purple ring is on her left hand again.
Kate is seen wearing a cross necklace while she's dressed as
Vampira, despite the aversion that vampires are supposed to have
with to crosses.
When Mr. Sanchez gives the fake hand to Kate, she takes it
with her right hand, then in the next quick shot it's in her
left.
The whole thing was a prank to freak Kate out, that would
mean that Miranda would have to act. But in "Random Acts of
Miranda", she was terrible at acting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
25. Facts of Life
When Matt is reading off a list of Rick the drummer's
credits, he pronounces Linda Ronstadt's last name as "Ronstand."
A scholarly goof: Tudgeman gives an answer to a question as
Marc Antony's fleet at the battle of Alexandria in 12 B.C.
Actually, Marc Antony died eighteen years earlier in 30 B.C.
Tudge also makes the common mistake of calling him Marc Anthony,
rather than Antony, causing Miranda to ask, "Marc Anthony the
singer?"
Larry Tudgeman answers the question what is the square root
of Pi as 1.98324 that is wrong, the square root of Pi is
actually 1.772453.
When Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo are getting ready for there
first study with Mr. Dig after school, Gordo says he took out
all the math books from the library, then near the end of the
episode Miranda says "We have a library?" Shouldn't she know
about the library when Gordo mentioned it? Not only that but in
"Gordo's Video" some of the tape Gordo shot was from the library
and that episode was filmed before this one.
When Lizzie says she found out that Queen Elizabeth I was
fat, bald, and looked like a clown from a book she read, she
must have misread. While it is true that Queen Elizabeth lost
her hair during her reign, which caused her to wear wigs as
other men and women in that century, and she did wear heavy
makeup to cover up scars from smallpox, she was not fat. In
reality, she took after her very thin mother, Anne Boleyn.
Perhaps Lizzie mistook the Queen for her father, King Henry
VIII, who became known for his obesity.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
26. Scarlett Larry
In "Between a Rock and a Bra Place," Gordo said he was in
all of Lizzie's classes, "except for gym." But in this episode,
he's in her "co-ed" gym class.
In this episode while Lizzie is walking in the hallway with
Gordo and Miranda, she looks at the bulletin board. But in
"Gordo's Video" she said she didn't even know the school had
one. ["Gordo's Video" was filmed before this episode, but was
not aired until after it--Ed.]
Tudgeman is supposed to have been wearing the same shirt
since the second or third grade, but it fits him now as a
seventh grader.
How does Kate get away with wearing a gym uniform with a
bare midriff when super-strict Coach Kelly is the gym
instructor?
Jo McGuire says that it's a curse in her family to marry
geeky men, but she says it's the "McGuire" curse. McGuire is her
married name, not her maiden one.
Is Ethan some sort of deaf-mute? When Lizzie's talking about
her possible "crushers", she mentions, excitedly, and therefore
rather loudly, Ethan Craft. And Ethan is standing right there,
dancing with the rest of them. Shouldn't he have heard her?
In the sequence where Lizzie is pretending to be Larry's
girlfriend, you can see that the boy playing the violin isn't
really playing it because he's not even touching the strings.
After Sam crashes the soap box racer, he falls into a
dirt/grassy area. When he first gets up, the front of his shirt
is stained and dirty, but in the next shot, his shirt has very
little grass on it.
In the opening scene, when Kate tells Lizzie that someone
has a crush on her, Toon Lizzie states, "A crush on me? I'm the
crushee, not the crusher." This is actually stated backwards.
Lizzie is the one who has the crush on Ethan which makes her the
crusher and Ethan would be the crushee.
In the Lizzie McGuire book Totally Crushed, it states that
the square dancers are eighth graders, when in reality, they are
seventh graders in the episode!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
27. Gordo and the Dwarves (aka Gordo and the Magic Dwarves)
Probably not a Goof: Mrs. Sanchez comes to the McGuires'
house to get her husband Edward and says he's been there for
four hours. In the meantime, in the story's other action, night
has fallen and the kids have gone back to school. Editor: In
this scene Sam, Jo, and Edward are wearing different clothes
from the scene where Edward joins Sam in the tree, so I beleive
it should be assumed that the events occurred on different days.
Matt talks about when Gordo rescued him from the stair case
(his head was stuck in it). The posts that Matt's head was stuck
in are much smaller than all the other posts.
Jo calls Matt "Indiana Jones" when he announces he's going
out to hunt for snakes, something the actual Indiana Jones
character wouldn't do as he had a phobia of the creatures.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
28. Lizzie and Kate's Big Adventure (aka Lizzie and Kate's
Excellent Adventure)
Is it SAND-ers or SAUN-ders? The pronunciation of Kate's
name is back to the latter again.
When Lizzie and Kate slip on the eggs and fall, the flour
bag that Lizzie's holding doesn't fly up in the air. But when
the girls are on the ground, the flour comes cascading down from
above them.
Toon Lizzie says at one point, "After all, this is junior
high." Which is it, junior high or middle school? The school has
been called both on the series, and there is a difference.
Generally, a middle school contains grades 6,7, and 8, while a
junior high contains grades 7, 8 and the freshman year of high
school, grade 9.
The patio door which is broken by the bookbag is different
from those seen in other episodes. Usually doors with full glass
and grids are seen but the door that is broken has two separate
panes of glass and no grids. Later, when Matt runs into Kate
there is a wide shot of the kitchen which shows the doors, with
grids, that are normally seen. (Actually, the doors with the
grids had no glass in them, as we noticed in a goof in "Over the
Hill" where Gordo stuck his hand through one of the "panes." But
they needed a real glass door in this episode.)
When Lizzie opens her locker to scream into it, her hand is
on the door. But when the shot cuts to the inside of the locker,
her hands are at the bottom of it. Then she's shown once again
with her hand on the door.
Claire says she's paired up with Ethan on the cooking
project, but he's never seen in this episode. When Lizzie and
Kate are making their presentation near the end, there's a shot
of the students in the class, and Ethan is not shown among them.
Goof or not a goof? Toon Lizzie says, "It's deja vu all over
again," which is redundant, since deja vu is French for the
feeling a person has that he or she has experienced a present
moment at some time in the past. Actually, the phrase "deja vu
all over again" has become sort of a standard joke. (It was
supposedly uttered once by Yogi Berra, famous for his twisting
of language.) But so many people use it seriously that we're not
always sure who knows it's a joke and who doesn't.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
29. The Courtship of Miranda Sanchez
During a scene where Lizzie and Miranda are walking down the
hall, a girl wearing an orange vest passes behind them.
Immediately afterwards, she's seen walking behind them from the
same direction once again.
Ryan must have a bad case of "sitcom hearing." He and
Miranda sit together at a table, virtually the same distance
from Lizzie hiding in a trash can. But while Miranda clearly
understands every word Lizzie says, Ryan hears not a word.
The garbage can that Lizzie hides in looks pretty bogus in
terms of the trash that's in it. It's mostly filled with
newspaper. It's not at all what you'd expect to see in a trash
can located where people eat their lunch, except for one lone
banana peel. There are no milk cartons, bread crusts, apple
cores, paper bags, food wrappers, tinfoil, etc. Of course we
don't think Hilary Duff should have had to climb into a can full
of old, smelly food and garbage, but it could have been a little
more realistic!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
30. Gordo's Video
Wouldn't many of the people in Gordo's video be recognizable
by their clothes and body types, even if their faces and voices
were altered?
When Gordo hides the camera in the tree, the camera catches
a girl tugging at her underwear. The camera actually pans
down--how did it do this if Gordo wasn't in the tree? [There are
remote control cameras that could do this, but Gordo would have
to be watching on a monitor. We doubt he could afford such
equipment--Ed.]
When Sam smashes through the wood the hole he makes is a
very clean-cut sqaure, but in the next scene the wood is all
messed up and not so clean-cut.
The pane of "fake glass" that Matt makes is bigger than any
pan he uses.
When Gordo shows the girls the paper from the bulletin
board, the locker behind Lizzie is open, but in the next shot
it's closed.
When Gordo, Miranda and Lizzie sit down to watch the hidden
video at Lizzie's house, Gordo says "let's see what we got" as
if he hasn't seen the video before. But all of the funny images
are already edited together.
After a confrontation with Gordo in the hall at school, Kate
and Claire walk off into the foreground. They're then seen in
the background.
When Gordo mentions the school's bulletin board, Lizzie
responds, "We have a bulletin board?" But she's been seen
reading from it before, like in "I've Got Rhythmic."
Thanks to minnymouse35 for pointing out something that
should have been obvious to us from the first: You don't get
"held back" in kindergarten! Kate might have started late, but
she wouldn't be held back as if she failed a grade! (There's
been a good bit of disagreement about this "goof." Someone
pointed out that the youngest students, those with birthdays
late in the year, sometimes don't advance to the first grade
with others, but that has to do with social skills and maturity,
not anything "academic." Others have said that yes, indeed, kids
do get held back in kindergarten for academic reasons.)
In the scene where Gordo decides to enter his film in the
film festival Miranda has her backpack, but in the next scene
she says she left her backpack on the bus.
In the hallway scene with Lizzie and Miranda, just prior to
the the screening of Gordo's video, Miranda is wearing a
different necklace from the one seen during and after the
screening.
When Miranda comes out during lunch to tell Lizzie about her
horrible day, Lizzie is seen sitting at a table with no trees or
bushes behind her, but in the next shot, when Miranda sits down,
there is a big bush right behind Lizzie.
Nitpick or Not: If Lizzie, Miranda and Kate were such best
friends, wouldn't they have known that she was a year older than
them? Best friends would have known that about each other.
When Lizzie,Gordo, and Miranda are in the hall way after
Gordo finds his videocamera Lizzie says Come on to Miranda but
instead of saying "Come on Miranda", Hilary says "Come on
Lalaine."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
31. Gordo's Bar Mitzvah
Gordo wonders how he will know when he becomes a man, and
tells the girls that they will know when they are women because
their change is "biological." But surely a smart guy like Gordo
must know that there are biological changes for boys as well
(which we won't go into here!) which mark the onset of maturity.
The girls act like they know nothing about bar-mitzvahs,
especially Miranda ("a bar, like where you drink? At 13?" and
they say he's not 13 anymore later on..., "I didn't know what to
wear, I've never been to one of these before"). But in "Last
Year's Model", they say they were invited to Whitney's
bat-mitzvah (the equivalent of a bar mitzvah for Jewish girls).
More of a nitpick: Gordo has his bar-mitzvah a few days
after making his video, leaving only a few days for him to study
his portion of the Torah. However in, reality it would take him
months to learn something like that; normally a Jewish boy
leading up to his bar-mitzvah would be studying for quite a few
months. Although Gordo is smart enough to learn it very fast,
it's doubtful he could do it that soon.
While Gordo is talking to his father about why he wasn't
"bar-mitzvahed", they say it's because he's not 13 anymore. That
means he is 14+, and still in the seventh grade, which was the
gossip he captured about Kate in "Gordo's Video". The show has
not signified a change of grade levels yet.
Nitpick: In the scene where Gordo's family is eating, some
of the plates they put in the sink have a good deal of food on
them.
Although Gordo reads the part at the end in perfect Hebrew
and it is what is said at a Bar-Mitzvah, it is not however read
directly from the Torah. Gordo is seen reading from the Torah,
however why would he be reading from it when that part is always
read from a prayer book?
Lizzie and Miranda are wearing very slinky clothes, however,
when in a synangoue it is best to wear clothes that are less
revealing. So why would Lizzie and Miranda wear such clothes,
also considering that both their mothers are wearing more formal
clothes. Although one viewer has stated in modern bat mitzvah
services, slinky clothes in temple are accepted, especially if
you aren't Jewish. There is no proper dress code for bar
mitzvahs, except adults normally dress more conservatively.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Season 2
32. First Kiss
Malina's name was spelled Melina in the credits for "The
Untitled Stan Jansen Project," the first episode in which the
character appeared.
Lizzie never gives back the ring, she just holds it in her
hand. Although it is also possible that she throws it on the
ground.
When Ronny first comes to the door, Lizzie turns and hollers
"Paperboy!" The scene cuts to her mom Jo saying "Where's my
purse?" but she appears to be in the middle of a fit of
laughter. What's so funny about "paperboy?" Or was this a blown
take they decided to use anyway?
When Matt and Sam are talking about their baseball cards,
Sam gets up to look for his card collection. Matt has the cards
in his lap, and then the camera turns away and turns back and
they're beside him. Then, it turns away again and its on his
lap. There wasn't enough time for him to move them.
A nitpick: Lizzie only names five people when she's talking
about the "six degrees of separation" theory Ronny told her
about. In the theory, people can be linked by less than six
people, but Lizzie specifically mentioned six then goes on to
use five as an example.
Many viewers think that the name of this episode is a
misnomer because Lizzie got her "first kiss" from Aaron Carter
in "Aaron Carter Is Coming to Town." But others think the name
is appropriate because this is Lizzie's first kiss from a
boyfriend.
Lizzie's parents are very concerned about her going out with
Ronny, but they didn't show any hesitation in letting her go out
with Larry Tudgeman earlier in "Scarlett Larry."
When Lizzie and Ronny are playing their game of "you hang up
first!" on the phone, Miranda presses her finger down on the
receiver cradle to cut off the call. But the dial tone is still
audible even when she still has her finger pressed down.
When Lizzie's voice is electronically speeded up while she's
talking about the "six degrees of separation" theory, it sounds
as if she's repeating the same thing.
After Lizzie says to Miranda, "You never cared what was in
my notebook before. You're just jealous because I have a
boyfriend and you don't," Toon Lizzie is shown literally eating
the words Lizzie just said. However, the "don't" that she eats
is spelled "don,t" with a comma instead of an apostrophe.
While Matt is opening up packages of baseball cards, Jo and
Sam can be seen in the background putting away dishes. At one
point Jo hands Sam a light blue dish which changes in color to
navy blue just a second later.
This story takes place on Valentine's day yet one of the
chores Matt has to do for Melina is raking leaves, a task done
in the fall. Not to mention the fact that all the trees in the
background have a ton of leaves, all of which are green.
When Matt and Sam are talking about baseball cards, Sam
mentions having Roberto Clemente's rookie card as well as Willie
Mays' card from when he first started putting "chicken on the
hill." In reality, this wasn't Mays, but Pittsburgh Pirates'
great Wilver (Willie) Dornel Stargell (1940-2001), who played in
the 1960s and 70s with Roberto Clemente. The saying "chicken on
the hill" came from the fact that Stargell had a chicken
restaurant in Pittsburgh's Hill District and one night the game
announcer stated that if Willie hit a homerun everyone in the
restaurant at the time would get a free meal. This was news to
Willie, but it stuck and he kept doing it. (Thanks to ednamae19
for this information.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
33. El Oro de Montezuma (aka El Oro del Diablo)
Mr. Dig introduces himself to his class as Mr. Digs.
In the episode "Night of the Day of the Dead" Miranda knew a
lot of Spanish words, but in "...Montezuma" she acts like she
knows practically nothing. For instance, she seems to not know
what "bueno" means when it is one of the most commonly used
words in the Spanish language, meaning "good" or "OK" or just an
affirmative word in general.
In this episode, Miranda says she was taught to swim by her
cousin Carlos. But in "Jack of All Trades" she says she took
swimming lessons with Lizzie.
On the game show, Carlos is separated from the team and put
into a soundproof box where they can't hear him. Yet somehow he
seems to be able to hear the game instructions in Spanish and
tries to shout them out to his team.
Lizzie tells Li that Mr. Dig is substitute-teaching their
class for a week. This guy gets more work than any substitute
we've ever seen! Either Lizzie, Gordo and Miranda's teachers are
all a bunch of layabouts, or there is some kind of epidemic
disease among faculty members, because the substitute Mr. Dig is
by far the teacher we see most often!
Possibly a minor goof. While Lizzie is having trouble
communicating with Li, Miranda can be seen in one shot trying to
hold back a laugh. That would be a natural reaction, except no
one else seems to be having it.
During the rice pudding fight on the game show, the host
Alejandro throws his index cards up in the air. They go behind
him, but somehow one of the cards immediately floats down right
in front of the camera.
Closed captioning errors: Mr. Dig is identified as "Digg"
and Li's name as "Lee."
When Lizzie, Miranda and Carlos are dressing up Gordo in the
costume. Gordo says, "Will you guys hurry up, my pants are
itchy." Well, the costume pants were put on OVER his jeans!
When Gordo is making his presentation to the class, he's
reading from an empty folder.
Since "Just Like Lizzie" was filmed with the thought that it
would be the first episode of season two, everything after that
point on would have to be in the 8th Grade. Therefore, all of
season two takes place in the 8th Grade. So why does Lizzie act
as if she has never learned any form of Spanish here, if in "The
Gordo Shuffle" she and Ethan are talking about their Spanish
class. She must have been taking this Spanish class throughout
the 8th Grade, and therefore during the time of "El Oro de
Montezuma"!
Jo asks the kids what they are watching and seems to have no
idea about the show. But she then names a character from the
show, how does she know his name after only a few seconds of
watching?
After the kids start throwing pudding at each other, there
is a shot of Montezuma where he appears to be hit for the first
time, but there are already stains from the pudding on his
shirt. Also in this scene, the booth Carlos is sitting in can be
seen, but there is no pudding on it even though a few seconds
earlier it was seen being splattered by some.
Mr. Dig mentions the Xingu River, but closed captioning
spells it Zingoo.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
34. Mom's Best Friend
Lizzie says, "We made pots and got free facials," referring
to the dab of clay her mom put on her face. But Lizzie's the
only one who got a "facial," not Mrs. McGuire.
Near the end when Jo drops Lizzie off at the Digital Bean,
Lizzie is wearing her charm necklace that appears to be
scrunching her gray top together. In the next shot, the heart is
behind the shirt, and in the next, it's back scrunching the
t-shirt together.
During the pottery-making scene, the shape and the amount of
clay on Lizzie's nose keeps changing.
Mr. McGuire complains about the German shepherd winning the
dog show he's watching on television, but the picture shown is
of a Bernese Mountain Dog.
Mr. McGuire grounds Matt after the chimp incident. So if
he's grounded, why is Lanny still coming over to his house and
hanging out?
When Lizzie and her mom are painting their pottery, the
amount of red on Jo's pot changes from shot to shot.
In the dream sequence Jo says "Welcome to the The Orchids
and Gumbo Poker Club." But when Lizzie talks to her mom she
says, "We can start an Orchids and Gumbo Poker Society."
In one shot at the Digital Bean, Miranda can be seen with
some fries in her left hand. But in the close up shots before
and after that one, she doesn't have anything in her hand.
It is stated that Fredo ran away, yet he goes through three
changes of clothes in the episode.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
35. The Rise and Fall of Kate (aka The Rise and Fall of the
Kate Empire)
Toon Lizzie says in this episode, "I don't even like
beaches," but in "Facts of Life", she said she wanted to go to
Miami so bad and sit on the beach.
Toon Lizzie mentions that she hates monster movies. But in
"Gordo And The Girl," Lizzie is looking forward to having a
"scary movie marathon."
As one of the tallest, if not the tallest cheerleader on the
squad, it is very unlikely that Kate would be put on top of the
pyramid formation.
Toon Lizzie imagines herself as a contestant on the game
show Jeopardy!, saying "I'll take humiliation in front of the
whole school for $500, Alex!" Unfortunately, the show has
doubled the prizes starting November 26, 2001, so there is no
longer a clue worth $500!
The pronunciation of Kate's last name is back to Sanders
(short A) again after being "Saunders" in a few episodes.
Doesn't the cheerleading team have a coach or some sort of
adult supervisor? Wouldn't that coach make sure that Kate wasn't
kicked off by the other team members and be allowed to
participate as soon as she recuperates? Also it's unlikely that
a student would have the ability to force another student to
move to another locker, as was done to Kate or keep people from
sitting at the tables for lunch.
Closed captioning error: Jennie Woods' first name is spelled
"Jenny." This is a completely understandable error, since the
only way we know the spelling of it is by reading it in a couple
of the Lizzie McGuire books.
Kate supposedly dislocated her shoulder, but at the
episode's end her arm is already out of a sling, after only
about a week or so.
A nitpick: When Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo go to sit in the
grass with Kate, Miranda says, "So scoot over, Sanders." But
there's no need for Kate to "scoot over," there's lots and lots
of room for all three of them to sit down beside her
comfortably.
When Lizzie and Kate are talking in the hallway, Lizzie's
purse goes from being on her shoulder in one shot, to
disappearing in the next, and then reappearing in the one after
the camera pans to Kate. Also in that scene, one wide shot shows
Kate holding two textbooks and a notebook followed by another
shot which shows her holding only one textbook and the notebook.
But the final shot shows Kate dropping the computer textbook.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
36. Working Girl
After being credited as Malina in the last episode she was
in ("First Kiss"), Carly Schroeder's character's name is once
again spelled Melina, like it was in the first appearance ("The
Untitled Stan Jansen Project"). Also, Matt prononces her name
"Muh-LANE-uh" in this episode.
Lizzie is a busboy, right? Well if she was then why did she
give those people the muffin in the beginning of the episode?
Busboys clean, not serve.
The card that Matt gives to Miranda is green in one shot,
then yellow in the next, then green, then yellow, etc.
After being fired, Lizzie returns home still wearing her
stained uniform shirt. (When she came home after her first day
on the job she was wearing her own clothes.)
In the scene where Toon Lizzie shows her "sad eyes" look, we
can see that her eyes are blue. Yet the real Lizzie has
brown/hazel eyes.
Not a goof? You decide. More than one person has noted that
Lizzie's parents are very uncertain about the wisdom of Lizzie
getting a job, yet they both encouraged Matt and Lanny to earn
their own money in other episodes. But some of us think there is
a big difference between "getting a job" with a local business
where one works set hours, gets a Social Security card, pays
taxes, etc., and "earning some money" by doing tasks like
cleaning up a neighbor's attic or yard. Parents might naturally
be much more concerned about their child getting a "real" job,
which carries with it more responsibility and could interfere
more with schoolwork.
Goof or not? At the beginning when Jo is making her beef
Stroganoff, she sits it down on the counter on a pad or
potholder, yet the dish still continues to boil even though it
is around no heat source. But a boiling pot or dish will still
continue to boil for a couple of seconds even after it's removed
from a stove's burner. Should the Stroganoff be boiling or not?
When Lizzie gets up from the floor at the Digital Bean from
slipping on Claire's smoothie and has her rant, she turns to
walk to the guy who has the bagle, and if you look closely at
her back, you can see that there's no smoothie remains on her
back. Actually, the first time she turns around after getting up
there are some stains on her shirt, but they are fewer than
should be. When Lizzie is first shown falling a wet spot can be
seen on the upper left portion of her shirt even before she hits
the floor. Also the various spots on her shirt change size and
location from shot to shot.
Goof or not: It has been noted by some that Lizzie should
have looked more closely at the cake and seen what was written
on it, but it's also understandable that something would go
unnoticed if the person was thinking about something else.
When Lizzie slips on the spilt smoothie as she is falling
she turns as if to fall on her face but after she falls it shows
her on her back.
After Lizzie tells Gordo and Miranda she got fired, Gordo
states she was caught drinking straight from the shake machine,
saying it was what he would have done. But if you think of the
way you use a shake machine, that is really impossible. You have
to put ice cream and other ingredients in a silver cup and use
the shake machine to mix. A shake machine is really a standing
blade you turn on. IT would be impossible to put your mouth over
or under it, and if you could you wouldn't want to because the
blade would hurt your mouth.
Nitpick: Before Lizzie tells her parents that she got a job,
Jo says that she has been good for two days and wonders what is
going on. Yet it was only the afternoon before that she got the
job, which would be less than two days.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
37. And the Winner Is
When Sam and Jo are in the kitchen acting stupid with the
food, Sam is shooting the whipped cream and some lands on his
shirt. But then the camera angle changes and it's not there
anymore.
Miranda and Lizzie wear shirts (barely) showing their
stomachs, but Lizzie said in "Jack of All Trades" that her
mother would never let her wear bare midriff stuff.
Mr. Dig tells Matt he has won the scavenger hunt and gets an
"A" before Matt tells him he doesn't go to his school.
Immediately afterward Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo cross the finish
line, only to be told that somehow "Anita and Jeremy" finished
first. Actually, there is some time before Lizzie, Miranda and
Gordo cross the finish line. It's while they are saying their
apologies, so someone could have approached Mr. Dig from another
direction as Matt did.
Mr. Dig states that the Stamp Act was passed in November of
1765, actually it was in March of that year.
In the last scene, Matt is playing his game boy, but he has
no game cartrigde in it.
In an early scene, Tudgeman's name appears as "Judgement"
and "Touchman" in the closed captioning.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
38. The Longest Yard
Sam says that the highlight of his trip to the Sports Expo
was having his picture taken with "last year's Super Bowl
mascot." But they show a picture of the mascot of the St. Louis
Rams, who were in Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000 and XXXVI in 2002,
rather than in 2001. (Even though this episode was not broadcast
until May 2002, it was filmed in December 2001. Confused? We
hope so!)
If Sam is as fanatical about his autographed football as
this episode suggests, than wouldn't he have known the
difference between Jo's and Walter Payton's handwriting style?
Even though the "official" 1986 Super Bowl football signed
by Walter Payton has some gold lettering on it that says "1986
Super Bowl," it has no Super Bowl logo which an official
souvenir ball would have.
The Dick Butkus football that Lanny replaces near the
episode's end appears to have no autograph.
Nitpick: How long is Gordo's King of Norway joke he tells
Sam's softball buddies? He starts it when Lizzie, Miranda, Matt
and Lanny are at Collector's Corner, but is still telling the
same joke when they sneak back into the house. Either it's one
long joke or Collector's Corner is really close to the McGuire's
home.
At the beginning of the episode when Sam is talking to the
football, there is a brown vase next to it. Later, when Matt
steals the football, the vase is gone. Then when Lanny is
replacing the football, the vase is back again.
Near the beginning of the episode the closed captioning
identifies Sam as Simon.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
39. Just Friends
In "Jack of All Trades", Lizzie states that her mom would
never let her wear anything with a bare midriff, but in this
episode Lizzie and Miranda both were seen showing their bellies.
[Just barely, though!--Ed.]
Lizzie drinks Matt's smoothie, which contains strawberries,
even though in an earlier episode it was said that she was
allergic to strawberry ice cream.
In the opening scene, one shot shows MIranda with folded
arms, but the next quick shot shows her tucking her hair back.
This goes on for about ten shot changes. She always has her arms
folded in one shot and then up in the next, without time to
change positions.
Somehow Lizzie, looking in the mirror of her compact from
several feet away, manages to get a close-up reflection of
Ethan, close enough to read the label on his soda can.
Ethan runs into a pole when the birds are chasing him and
Lizzie states that he's nearsighted. But the inability to see
objects up close means a person is farsighted.
Nitpick: When Lizzie uses a hand mirror to see what type of
cola Ethan likes the image appears normal, but the lettering
should be reversed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
40. Those Freaky McGuires
Kate gets doused with what Lizzie (Matt) calls chili, but it
appears to be baked beans.
When Lizzie and Matt's parents come out in the hall at the
end of the episode, Sam McGuire doesn't have on his glasses
until they appear in the very last shot before they go back in
the bedroom. Even if he was holding them in his hand, there was
no time for him to put them on between shots.
When Lizzie and Matt switch they both yell "I'll stay out of
your life!" But when they try to switch back and they say it
again, they say "stay out of my life" instead of what they first
said.
When Matt and Lizzie first switch bodies, they immeditely
turn on their heels and go to their rooms before they realize
what happens. But they go straight to the rooms they came out
of, which would now be the other person's room. Right?
In the series of shots when Miranda and Gordo see Matt (as
Lizzie) for the first time there are two girls who appear in
many of the shots. One is wearing a red top and blue jeans and
the other a pink top and short blue skirt. In two separate
shots, when the camera is on Lizzie, they enter the hallway from
the same classroom. Then in shots of Miranda and Gordo both
girls can be seen walking behind them when they should still be
approaching Lizzie.
Kate slips on a banana peel and goes sliding on her stomach
through a set of double doors. But when the bucket of chili on
top of those doors falls on her just a second later, she's on
her back.
Jo tells Matt and Lizzie they are going to be late for
school if they don't hurry up. Then they go and change clothes
and hairstyles several times before leaving for school and still
manage to be early!
A nitpick: If the banana peal was just sitting there in the
middle of the hallway, shouldn't someone besides Kate have
slipped on it?
Nitpick: When Lizzie (Matt) puts the frogs in Kate's locker
she has to know what Kate's combination for her locker is.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
41. In Miranda Lizzie Does Not Trust
When Beth dances to the "Waltz of the Flowers", the closed
captioning shows "[music from Swan Lake playing]". Apparently
the captioning producer from WGBH confused the music with the
also famous Waltz from Act I of Swan Lake, another ballet
masterpiece by Tchaikovsky.
Miranda identifies Gordo's dance partner as Beth Ludberg.
Later Mr. Dig pronounces her last name "Lubderg."
At the mall, Lizzie tries to open a makeup compact from the
wrong side and almost drops it.
Lizzie and Miranda talk about showering in gym class with
two hundred other girls. That sounds like an awfully large (and
unlikely) gym class!
Not a goof? Several viewers have pointed out that in
"Between a Rock and a Bra Place," Gordo said he was in all of
Lizzie and Miranda's classes but gym, yet in this episode he's
in a co-ed gym class with them. But in the earlier episode, they
were in grade seven, not eight, and they're likely in a
different gym class now. It might be a goof for the episode
"Scarlett larry," which took place during season 1 (the seventh
grade season).
When Lizzie is down in the basement with the laundry, the
phone rings and Lizzie answers it. She then says hello, and then
says "No one's there!" in a confused way. You can hear a dial
tone but Matt says that it must be Lanny, and he speaks to him
on the phone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
42. Over the Hill
As Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo walk out on to the porch you
can see Gordo's hand go through what's supposed to be a glass
window. For an explanation of this see the Notes section for the
episode "Lizzie and Kate's Big Adventure."
For the second time in her five appearances on the show,
Carly Schroeder's character is listed in the credits as
"Malina." The other three times it's been spelled Melina.
When Lizzie falls in the trash can she falls in it upside
down but then they cut to her rightside up. It is impossible for
her to get up that fast in that thin of a trash can.
Also, when the janitor first wheels the trash can by, there
is no garbage visible in it. But a second later when Lizzie
falls in, trash can be seen sticking out over the top of the
can.
During Lizzie's dream sequence, Gordo's limo driver orders
five orders of curly fries for him. But when he gets them, they
appear to be regular French fries.
When the McGuire's are watching the scary movie, the amount
of popcorn in Sam's bowl changes from shot to shot.
As Sam is seated on the couch watching the movie with Jo and
Matt his position changes from shot to shot. In some shots he is
reclining fully into the couch, but in the very next shot he is
seated upright leaning forward a bit only to switch back in the
next shot.
When Lizzie gets up from bed to go to her parents, she was
wearing make-up. Why would she wear make-up when she is sleeping
Nitpick: In this episode Lizzie says that the law is boring,
yet in "I Do, I Don't" she's excited about having chosen lawyer
as a career when she's "married" to Gordo. Although, it could be
that the idea of playing a lawyer is less boring than actually
being one.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
43. Best Dressed for Much Less (aka Kiss My Budget)
Here's a big blooper: In this episode Matt is already
"famous" after doing a rock climbing ad with an animated dragon
for a product called Cardio Punch--but the episode in which he
makes the ad, "Party Over Here," has not yet aired.
At the mall, Matt gets his right sleeve ripped off by a fan.
Then after posing as a mannequin, both his sleeves are gone.
When Matt and Sam meet up with Jo, it's Matt's left sleeve that
is missing, and finally when they get back home, the right
sleeve is missing once again.
In the beginning scene, one of the girls mentions that Gordo
blew his brain project up "this year", although that happened
during the last school year when they were in the 7th grade.
(However, when this episode was first broadcast, it hadn't been
made clear yet that they were now in the 8th grade.)
When the slushee drink gets spilled on Lizzie, it's done
rather poorly. It appeares that someone standing just out of
camera range merely pours the contents of the cup straight down
on her, then drops the empty cup a second later.
During a montage of shots showing Lizzie to be clumsy, a
brief clip is included from the episode "Just Like Lizzie,"
which didn't air until after this one.
Gordo gets his picture taken with the Wrestling Club. A
wrestling CLUB? Most schools would have a wrestling TEAM, right?
Lizzie says the pants she wants from the Style Shack are
still on "the world's best-dressed mannequin." Actually, they
weren't on a mannequin, but rather some sort of wire display
rack.
When Lizzie has the slushee spilt on her some of it also
gets on Gordo, but in the next shot when she exits the restroom
there are no stains at all on Gordo's pants.
Nitpick: In the opening scene Lizzie, Miranda, and Gordo
enter the classroom, listen to the announcements and get up to
leave the classroom, yet no teacher was present to call the
roll.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
44. You'r
